Senate Greenlights Measure to Release Jeffrey Epstein Records

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday quickly approved to a bill that will require the publication of case documents associated with the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, after a overwhelming vote in the US House of Representatives and a shift by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. The White House changed course after an extended period of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a scandal that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Congress

The Senate acted by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but avoids a individual voting process, expediting the process. Hours earlier, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a massive majority.

The public have endured sufficient delay. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have suffered long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader said in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to adopt it by consent. “Reveal the truth. Allow openness to prevail.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next goes to Trump for his endorsement. The president signaled on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Though Trump has for an extended period rejected the uproar over the authorities' approach of the investigation as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the measure over the past few days, and stated he would sign the measure if it reaches his desk.

Response

Opposition lawmakers, along with victims and their representatives who were present in a public section, applauded after the bill was passed. The only opposition came from a GOP representative, who said he feared the measure would disclose personal information of people, persons of interest and others involved in the investigation.
